Doc I saw your T-Bird the night of the Funny Car Reunion party. I usually don't like them much but yours is sweet. You bought the right year and color combo. The hardtop is the way to go. I'll get my stang out of the barn and give you a race.

Re: DOC'S PICKS FOR 2009 'FAST FAMILY FUN' AT OLD BRIDGE TWP RACEWAY PARK!

NostFliptop & Brad, You fellows are correct, I have indeed been shouting from the rooftops and enthusiastically promoting both SHAKEDOWN AT E'TOWN and the NOSTALGIA SUMMERNATIONALS/FUNNY CAR REUNION for many moons... HOWEVER, most of the credit for the success of those two fine events goes to the dedicated people who work  behind the scenes, people who are a lot less visible to the public eye than I am, yet they are extremely diligent in their efforts to make these two races work as well as they do-- Mainly I'm referring to Raceway Park's people like the Napps, Michelle Marchese, Dave Hance, Walter Frey, Wayne Paul and many others... You also must keep in mind the incredible effort that all the folks working the day of the races put into making the events run as smooth as a well-oiled machine-- Like the folks working in the control tower, the announcers, the always superb starting line crew, the guys who work tech, etc, etc... There's a popular expression that says, "it takes a village to raise a child", well, I say it takes a lot of hard working and dedicated individuals to make events like SHAKEDOWN and the NOSTALGIA SUMMERNATIONALS/FUNNY CAR REUNION the successful races they are today... I firmly believe an overwhelming amount of the credit for these races succeeding should be directed towards the people working behind the scenes and at the track... Crosseye, thanks for the nice words regarding my  '03 Thunderbird... If I choose to race you and your Mustang, I must warn you in advance that the $take$ will be incredibly high-- I'm a true hardcore NYC "Gambler Racer" at heart (ha ha)...   "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Doc you give credit where it's due. Modesty is a good virtue and you have it.

Re: DOC'S PICKS FOR 2009 'FAST FAMILY FUN' AT OLD BRIDGE TWP RACEWAY PARK!

Thanks Brad... I believe it's also necessary to credit the racers and race teams participating in the event when it's a success... It is the racers and race teams who play a crucial role in whether or not an event is a success or not... Often the success of an event can depend on something as simple as racers being smart and courteous enough to pull off to the side of the race track and out of the "main groove" when something goes mechanically wrong with their car, this way, if their car is leaking oil or fluids, the damage will be far less to the racing surface, making for a faster and easier clean up... Quicker clean-ups means less time that the race needs to be put on hold... Lengthy clean-ups can cost precious time... It also helps an event when racers and their teams make it to the stage lanes in a timely fashion when they're called... And of course good sportsmanship is a critical factor in order for a race to be a success--- When racers and their teams treat their opponents with courtesy and respect, that's always a recipe for a better day at the drag strip-- And it also sets a good example for the impressionable youth who are watching the race... It is important that we all do our best to set a good example for the youngins at the track... Racers who are friendly and personable to the fans also contribute to making an event better, always remember, no matter how "silly" or "trivial" a novice fan's question may seem when they approach you in your pit, a courteous and respectful answer will leave that fan with a good feeling about both you AND the sport of drag racing... It's also important to remember that besides the track staff and racers, it is the fans themselves that have a lot to do with making an event a success-- An enthusiastic crowd always helps make a race better... And of course the support of the press agents and sponsors can help in making an event work... Yes, there are several factors and variables in making an event successful-- And fortunately for all of us, we have some great staff, racers & race teams, fans, press and sponsors all coming together to make so many events at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park a success... We're mighty thankful and proud of them all... I've always said over the years that the drag racing community is much like a family, when a family works together for the common good, everyone reaps the benefits... "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

Lots of wisdom there Doc. That should be required reading for every racer, crew chief, track owner, and promoter who wants to take this business seriously.

She's right about not getting oil on the main groove.

Re: DOC'S PICKS FOR 2009 'FAST FAMILY FUN' AT OLD BRIDGE TWP RACEWAY PARK!

A lot of the facts and points I raised in my previous post are simply common sense... You don't have to be a "wisenheimer" to know that steering a crippled car off to the side of the track to avoid leaking fluids on the main groove is a smart idea... Lengthy track clean-ups rob valuable time from a raceday... And it doesn't take a "genius" to know that racers who practice good sportsmanship do our sport a great service by setting a good example to the youngins... And it doesn't take a "rocket scientist" to know that if a racer provides a respectful and courteous answer to a novice fan's most trivial or seemingly silliest of questions, that fan will then walk away with a positive feeling about the racer and the sport... Like I said, this is simply "common sense" advice-- My drag racing knowledge and common sense is the same knowledge and common sense that anybody who has spent a reasonable time in this drag racing business should be aware of and practice at the drags... I realize that I've been in this drag racing business before most of the whippersnapers who currently "surf" the drag racing internet were even born, and that's the only reason why I'm  able to share such a plethora of common sense based facts with my loyal readers-- That doesn't necessarily make me a "wisenheimer", a "genius" or a "rocket scientist",  it just demonstrates my ability to exercise some good ole common sense... H*ck, I guess this spectacular sport of drag racing and our world as a whole would be better off if folks would just take the time to think and exercise a bit more common sense as they go about their day-to-day living...  "The Doc" (Celebrity Drag Racing Authority & Visionary)...

She does have her way of russelling the feathers of the intellectually and emotionally weak. ROFL

But she is just fine for me. I love her unique take on things. Her tips for racers can't be beat. Everybody who runs a car should read her common sense approach to racing. See you at the FCR Diana!
